NFI Certified? Check your contact information!

Every now and then we hear a comment from someone that let their certification lapse. We do our best to make sure you know well in advance of your NFI Certification expiration date. Email notices are sent out 1 year, 6 months and 3 months prior to your expiration date. However, there are a few key things that you need to do:

  1. Make sure we have your correct email address. Go to, click on the Industry Professional page, enter your last name and NFI ID number. Then click the link to "Update You Email Address". Make sure it is current. While you are there, check your other contact information too.

  2. Read your email (OK, I had to add that one).

  3. Once you have logged in, scroll to the bottom of the page. You will see your total number of CEUs and your expiration date. Check this data to make sure it is correct.

  4. 60 days prior to your expiration date a link appears that says "Renew Now". Once you have enough CEUs to renew, click on that link and it will walk you through the payment process. It costs $139 to renew one certification for 3 years. There are no annual maintenance fees.

The key to renewing by CEUs is that you must accumulate the appropriate number of CEUs BEFORE you expire. Once you have let your certification lapse, your only option is to retake the exam if you do not have enough. But, just accumulating the CEUs is not the entire process. You still need to pay for the renewal and take one more class. (See the next article)

If you have more than one certification and plan on renewing by CEUs, make sure your expiration dates are synchronized so they all expire at the same time. It makes it easier to track your CEUs and the renewal process goes much smoother when your NFI Certification dates are synchronized.
