| The Small Business Health Fairness Act |
| What is Senate Bill 406? How will this affect you and your business? What can you do to help pass the bill? The Senate Small Business and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committees will each hold hearings this month on addressing the rising costs of health insurance for small business and the benefits of association health plans (AHPs). While the House has already passed the legislation several times, the Senate has been reluctant to address it. If passed HPBA members, along with millions of other small businesses, would be able to join a health plan as a large group and gain access to more affordable plans with better options. Many state insurance commissioners and insurance companies oppose AHPs because they create competition that gives small businesses more bargaining power. Tell your Senator to stand up for your right to affordable health care and ask them to cosponsor S. 406 – The Small Business Health Fairness Act – today! This bill is currently in the Senate HELP Committee. Kansas Members! One of your senators is on this committee, Pat Roberts. Please send a letter to Senator Roberts urging his support of S. 406. If you need a template for a letter, contact MWHPBA. Pat Roberts
