Fireplaces to Meet National Green Building Programs for People, Planet
and Profit (CEUs pending)
Jim Plucker, Hearth & Home Technologies
The latest buzz is all about selling green homes and green products.
But how do builders and homeowners define green in the hearth category?
This overview demonstrates how fireplaces, stoves and inserts are
specified in the national green building programs; LEED® for Homes,
Energy Star Indoor Air Package and NAHB’s Green Home Building
Standards. We’ll identify and discuss which fireplace types
comply with the green standards for hearth products, and ways you
can promote popular fireplace features that exceed the best practices
prescribed by the new green standards. |

"We
go to the annual meeting because
this is where we find the Winners and Doers of our industry. In
a short time we
learn what's new and hot, what we can
do to
make our business run better and pick up a few bits of information
to take back to the shop for employees so they
too feel they have gained by our participation." |

"The national
EXPO is such a busy time
for all of us that its nearly impossible to connect with others
on a one-to-one
basis. But at the summer meeting of our Midwest Affiliate is a different
story.
There IS time for those personal connections with retailers, reps
and manufacturers. It's also a time to learn about the latest new
trends in products, government regulations and marketing." |
